Charter terms
Published operating terms for Miss Chief Charters. Booking confirms the rate and these terms before you pay.
The charter
You are reserving the boat, not a seat. Maximum six passengers, per the Coast Guard limit on this vessel. The rate covers the group. A passenger who is added later still has to fit inside six, and the captain can refuse a party that shows up over the limit.
What the rate includes
On fishing trips: fuel, bait, tackle, a Florida fishing license, ice, bottled water, and filleting and bagging legal fish you keep. Sunset, sandbar, and memorial trips include the boat, captain, fuel, and bottled water. Gratuity is not included. Twenty percent for the crew is customary. Food and drinks are yours to bring. There is no alcohol package.
Fish
No species and no number of fish is guaranteed. Sailfish and marlin are released. Other fish may be kept when Florida regulations allow, and the crew will clean them at the dock. A recommendation of a restaurant that cooks a guest’s catch is a courtesy. A cooked meal is not part of the charter.
Cancellation
Cancel at least 72 hours before the trip and the deposit is refunded. Cancel inside 72 hours, or fail to show, and the deposit is forfeited. Coming back to the dock early because the group wants to is not a partial-day refund. The booked time is the booked time.
Weather
The captain decides on the morning of the trip whether the weather is fit. If he cancels, the deposit is refunded in full and no fee is charged. If he judges the day fishable and you decline to go, that is a cancellation on your side.
Safety
The captain’s instructions on the boat are the rules. He can end a trip that has become unsafe. Children are welcome on trips suited to them and remain the responsibility of the adults who brought them. Tell Dan about mobility or medical needs when you book so he can say honestly whether the day will work.
Departure
Trips leave from Key Largo Harbor Marina, 400 Ocean Drive, Key Largo, FL 33037. Longer trips depart at 7 a.m. unless the booking says otherwise. Arrive early. If you are going to be late, call (305) 393-2430.
